This article answers the most frequently asked questions about the new lesson editor.

To offer an improved and more complete way of creating and teaching interactive lessons, we've introduced a new version of our lesson editor. In the lesson editor you're editing your lessons and its your starting point when teaching a lesson. Read all about the benefits of the new lesson editor in this article.

What is the new lesson editor?

The "new" lesson editor is an improved version of LessonUp where you create and teach your lessons. It's a more-user friendly way of creating your lessons and gives more possibilities to use in your lesson, like:

  • Fill in the blanks

  • Sorting

  • Answer by category

  • AI tools to edit your lessons and create images

  • Teacher view

  • Image cropping

What is the classic lesson editor?

The "classic" lesson editor is the editor that you are already familiar with and use to create and teach your lessons, as can be seen in the screenshot below. We refer to this version as the "classic lesson editor".

How do I access to the new lesson editor?

All users have access to the new lesson editor by default. You can use the new lesson editor in different ways:

I want to use my existing lesson in the new lesson editor, is this possible?

We are working on the possibility to upgrade your existing lessons to the new lesson editor. Then you can benefit from all the functionalities the new lesson editor has to offer, over the classic lesson editor. We'll update you when this is available.

I'm missing specific features in the new lesson editor, when will these be available?

Availability of the classic lesson editor

Can I still use the "old" lesson editor?

Yes. The old version of the lesson editor is renamed to classic lesson editor and will remain available for all users until all necessary features are available in the new lesson editor.

Will the classic lesson editor be removed completely?

Eventually, yes. We are continuing to add features to the new lesson editor and will be removing the classic lesson editor whenever it is possible to migrate your current lessons to the new lesson editor without losing any crucial components of your lesson. Communication about this timeline and possible actions will be done prior to this moment.


AI possibilities

Can I still create lessons with the AI-assistant?

Yes, there are even more possibilities now! Use AI in multiple ways for and in your lessons. You can create entire lessons and quizzes via the AI tools overview. Here, you can also create assignments, rubrics and other lesson content.

Besides the AI tools in LessonUp, you are also able to edit texts and create images with help of AI, directly in your lesson. To use this, either click the "AI-icon" on the right side of the lesson editor, or click on "edit with AI", whenever you have a text selected. From here, you can:

  • Summarise text

  • Translate text

  • Rewrite text

  • Create images

  • ​Create debate topics

  • Create glossary

  • Summarise your lesson


Lesson library and sharing lessons

Can I share lessons that are created in the new lesson editor?

Yes. Lessons created in the new lesson editor can be shared in various ways:

  • Share with colleagues: Share your lesson via a shared folder

  • Share with colleagues: Share the direct link to your lesson with your fellow teachers. Use the "share" button on top of the screen and click on "Teachers".

  • Share with students: Use the "share" button on top of the screen, select "students", and download a PDF version of your lesson to share with students

The option to share a lesson with students via a direct link is currently work in progress. This will give you the possibility to let students click through the slides themselves during, before, or after you taught the lesson.

Can I find lessons for the new lesson editor in the lesson library?

Not yet. Lessons created in the new lesson editor are not yet added to the lesson library. Therefore, all lessons in the lesson library are only available to edit in the classic lesson editor.

Can I share lessons created in the new lesson editor with my colleagues?

Yes. Lessons that you create in the new lesson editor can be managed in your shared folders to make them available for your colleagues. You can even collaborate and edit lessons with your in real-time. Read more about co-editing your lesson in this article.

Can I share lessons created in the new lesson editor in other tools, like Canvas, Google Classroom, or Surfconext?

No, this functionality is not available yet in the new lesson editor at this moment. For a complete list of its current functionalities, please see this overview.


Reports and tests

Can I see any insights or reports from lessons created in the new lesson editor?

Yes, you are able to see the results of your lesson in a report after your lesson is taught. After you taught a lesson, right-click on the lesson in the overview of your lessons, and click "Reports".

Can I create tests from lessons created in the new lesson editor?

No, this functionality is not available in the new lesson editor. For a complete list of its current functionalities, please see this overview.


Channel lessons

As owner of a channel, can I use the new lesson editor?

Yes, you definitely can! However, please bear in mind it's currently not possible to publish lessons created in the new lesson editor to your channel or in the lesson library.

What happens to my current lessons on my channel?

Your current lessons will stay available on your channel and in the lesson library. Nothing will change in that regard.
