Teaching a lesson from the new lesson editor

Step 1: Open a lesson and click 'Teach'

Click 'Teach' from within the lesson editor, or right-click on a lesson in 'My LessonUp' and select 'Teach' from the menu.

Step 2: Getting students to join

Option 1: Teaching with a lesson code

After clicking 'Teach', you have two choices: teaching with a lesson code or teaching a class.

If you choose 'Teach with lesson code', students can join your lesson by entering the unique code.

The lesson code is always visible in the bottom left-hand corner of your teaching screen, or within the pop-up that appears when you click 'Students'. This pop-up also displays a large QR code that students can scan to join the lesson instantly.

Closing the lesson code: This setting is also found by clicking 'Students'. Simply toggle 'Allow new participants' on or off. This ensures no further participants can join your session.

Option 2: Teaching a class

You can also choose to start the lesson directly for an entire class. Click 'Teach' and select 'To class'. Choose the specific class you wish to teach; students will receive a notification at lessonup.app and will join the lesson automatically. This removes the need for them to enter a code.

Using this method prevents students from joining with "nicknames" and saves valuable lesson time.

Step 3: Navigating while teaching

You can navigate through your slides using a remote pointer, the arrow keys on your keyboard, or by clicking 'Previous' and 'Next' on the board. You can also jump to a specific slide by clicking on the slide counter (e.g., 1/24) and selecting your desired slide from the overview.

Additional Settings

  • Teacher View: This allows you to control the lesson from a separate screen, view your slide notes, and preview the upcoming slide while teaching. Read more.

  • Show on student device: With this feature enabled, students can follow the slides on their own devices in real-time as you teach. Read more.

  • Allow new participants: Use this to "lock" your lesson code and prevent unwanted participants from joining your session.
