In this article, we explain the difference between the word cloud in the old and new lesson editor and how to create a word cloud in the new lesson editor.
Word cloud in the classic vs new lesson processor
In the new lesson editor there are more formatting options for the word cloud. The question or topic of the word cloud is movable and customisable. The placeholders for students' answers are no longer visible in the new lesson editor, leaving more room for your own formatting. In addition, the screen during teaching has been modified.
How to create a word cloud in the new lesson editor
Step 1: Open the new lesson editor
Open the new lesson editor by clicking ‘New lesson’ in ‘My LessonUp’ and then clicking ‘Empty lesson’ under ‘New lesson editor’.
Step 2: Add a word cloud
Click + Add Slide and choose Word cloud. A Word cloud will now be added to your lesson.
Step 3: Enter a question or topic
Type a question or topic in the text box. This is the text box that students will see on their screen while teaching.
Step 4: Add any additional formatting
You can add text, images or other components to personalise your slide. When you add an additional text box, you will recognise the text displayed as a question to students with the label ‘Question’ when you select the text box.
What do students see?
Students see the text from the textbox labelled ‘Question’ appear on their screen, in this case: ‘What do you already know about Australia’. They can then add answers via the answer field at the bottom of their screen. For the Word cloud, multiple answers are allowed. The given answers appear below each other in the student's screen.
What does the word cloud look like during teaching?
When you are teaching and the students answer via their device, you will see the answers appear on the screen as little eyes. You can then choose to open the answers one by one or show all answers at once by clicking ‘Show all answers’ at the bottom of your screen.
