Creating an open-ended question in the new lesson editor
Updated over 2 months ago

In this article, we explain the difference between the open question in the old and new lesson editor and how to create an open question in the new lesson editor.

Open question in the classic vs new lesson editor

The biggest and most important difference is that there are more formatting options for the open question in the new lesson editor. You now have the option to customise the layout of the question. In addition, in the open-ended question of the new lesson editor, you can clearly see where the students' answers appear during teaching. This answer area is also customisable in colour and transparency.

How to create an open question in the new lesson editor

Step 1: Open the new lesson editor

Open the new lesson editor by clicking ‘New lesson’ in ‘My LessonUp’ and then clicking ‘Blank lesson’ under ‘New lesson editor’.

Step 2: Add an open question

Click on + Add Slide and choose Open Question. An open question will now be added to your lesson.

Step 3: Add question and answer area layout

Add the question in the text box. The white box with grey boxes is a placeholder for students answers that will appear on the board during the lesson. You can adjust the background colour and transparency of the answer area by clicking on it and adjusting the settings.

What do the students see?

Students see an answer box at the bottom of their screen.

Once the answer has been sent, the answer can still be edited by clicking ‘Edit answer’ at the bottom of the screen.

Please note: it is not yet possible for the open question in this new teaching tool to check for a correct answer.
