What is a prompt?
Maia only goes to work for you the moment you clearly state what she needs to do. In computer language, such wording is called a prompt: the information you provide to make her do what you want her to do. Compare it to entering the right search terms into a search engine like Google. The more specific you are, the better the search results.
How do you write an effective prompt to create a lesson?
Here are some basic guidelines to follow for writing a good prompt that can be used to create a complete lesson basis with educational value:
Be clear: Your prompt should be concise and clear. Avoid using complex language or ambiguous phrasing. This will help Maia better understand what you're asking.
Be specific: Provide as much context as possible for your prompt. If you're asking a question, be specific about what you're looking for. If you're asking for advice or suggestions, provide as much detail as possible about your situation.
Be open-ended: Avoid yes/no questions or prompts that are too specific. Maia works best when it has some flexibility in how it can respond.
Use proper grammar and spelling: Maia will better understand your prompt if it is written clearly and without errors.
Consider the topic: Maia has a wide range of knowledge, but it's important to consider the topic you're asking about. If your prompt is too far outside of Maia's areas of expertise, it may not be able to provide a useful response.
We recommend using the PREP method when writing prompts. The PREP method aims to get quality responses from ChatGPT and AI language models.
Example 1
‘Provide an explanation of the exam question: “Why did King William II decide to change the Constitution in 1848?”’
Example 2
‘Provide examples from everyday life for the Pythagorean theorem.’

How do you write an effective prompt to create a quiz or a poll?
Here are some basic guidelines to follow for writing a good prompt that can be used to create quizzes or polls with educational value:
Be specific: Be clear about the topic you want the quiz to cover. This will help Maia understand what type of questions to create.
Provide context: Provide as much context as possible about the topic, such as key concepts, historical events, or notable figures. This will help Maia create more accurate and relevant questions.
Provide any other relevant information: If there are any specific requirements or guidelines you want Maia to follow when creating a question, be sure to specify them in your prompt.
Use proper grammar and spelling: Maia will better understand your prompt if it is written clearly and without errors.
Remember that you don't need to inform Maia in the prompt that you want a quiz: LessonUp does that for you. Please check out some practical examples:
Example 1
Subject matter: History
If you want to create quiz questions about Ancient Egypt, you need to explicitly use the word 'ancient' as well.
Ancient Egypt is still a very broad topic: make sure you add more keywords to the prompt, for example: Cleopatra, mummies, tombs. Place commas between the keywords for clarity, or use them (separated by commas) in a longer sentence.
Example of an incomplete prompt: "Ancient Egypt"
Example of a good prompt: "Can you provide an overview of the social hierarchy in Ancient Egypt, including the roles and responsibilities of different classes of people such as pharaohs, priests, and farmers?"
Example 2
Subject matter: Geography
Example of an incomplete prompt: "Create some questions on geography." This prompt is too vague and doesn't provide enough information to create a useful quiz.
Example of a good prompt: "Can you help me create questions on the topic of world geography? Please include questions about continents, countries, and capital cities."
