My students are unable to hear sound when I play a video online (remote teaching)

This issue generally relates to a setting on the platform you're using for screen sharing. In these platforms, such as Teams, Zoom, or Meet, you need to specify that the system sounds from your computer should be shared, or they are muted by default to not 'overcrowd' your audio.
