It's possible that LessonUp is not functioning as it should. In this article, you will find the most common causes and their solutions. Below, the solutions are summarised. For more information, I recommend reading the corresponding section.
- Check and improve your internet connection.
- Update your browser.
- Close tabs using LessonUp until only one is open.
- Disable ad blockers and extensions.
- Clear cache memory.
- Clear browser history.
- Use the latest version of lessonup.app.
- Fill in lesson 'characteristics' (such as subject or age) before teaching.
Internet Connection
LessonUp is a program that relies on the internet. This means that a good internet connection is essential. When we refer to a good connection, we don't necessarily mean a super-fast fibre-optic connection, but rather a stable connection. You can test your connection on sites like this one. Restarting your computer/router/modem can be helpful, but it's usually only necessary in extreme cases.
Important to note: The number of bars in the Wi-Fi icon is not a reliable gauge of your internet connection. It only indicates the connection between your Wi-Fi access point and your computer.
Browser
Always use the latest version of a modern browser, such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge. If you are still using (a version of) Internet Explorer, we recommend switching to another browser. You can check the version of your browser using this site.
Multiple Tabs
If you receive an error message prompting you to contact us, you likely have multiple LessonUp tabs open in your browser. By closing all tabs except one, LessonUp should quickly return to its expected functionality.
Ad-blockers and Extensions
Ad-blockers sometimes not only block ads but also necessary data, which can hinder LessonUp's proper functioning. These programs fall under the category of extensions and run in the background of your browser.
To check if an extension is causing the issue, it's best to open a new incognito or private window in your browser. Extensions are usually not loaded in this mode, allowing you to determine if they are the culprits. If LessonUp loads correctly in this mode, you can then identify which extension is causing the problem.
You can find extensions by typing the following in your browser: edge://extensions/ (in Edge), chrome://extensions/ (in Chrome), about:addons (in Firefox), or through the Preferences tab Extensions (in Safari).
Now, disable/enable the extensions one by one to identify which one is causing the problem.
Refresh
While browsing the internet, various data is stored in the cache memory. Sometimes, the cache memory may attempt to use outdated material, resulting in a slow or empty page. In such cases, you can clear the cache memory using the key combinations CTRL+Shift+R (Windows, Chrome), CMD+Shift+R (Apple, Chrome), or CMD+Option/ALT+R (Apple, Safari).
Browser History
If the solution mentioned above doesn't work, you can also clear your browser's history. This can be done in any browser, whether you're using a computer, tablet, or phone. You clear your history (and cookies) to protect your privacy, free up space on your computer, or resolve issues with sites that don't load correctly. This article explains how to do it in your specific browser.
Updates
Your computer and devices need updates to continue functioning properly and remain secure. The same applies to LessonUp. If you and your students use the website, you will always have the latest version of LessonUp.
If your students use the LessonUp app on their devices, make sure they regularly check for updates in the App Store or Google Play. Additionally, we send updates to this app regularly, so you don't need to install an update manually. Just have the students completely close and restart the LessonUp app.
Lesson Characteristics
To be able to teach or share a lesson in LessonUp, all lesson characteristics must be filled in. Lesson characteristics include lesson duration, school type, level, grade, and subject. You can add these details in the editing screen (editor) or in "My LessonUp" by selecting the lesson and adding the information located under the lesson's image on the right.
