Account setting; Always use the new lesson editor

To make transitioning to the new lesson editor as smooth as possible, LessonUp offers two smart account settings. These settings allow you to skip manual editor selection steps and automatically convert your lessons.

Setting 1: Default to the new editor when creating, copying, and saving lessons

With this setting enabled, you bypass the editor selection prompt during daily tasks:

  1. Creating new lessons: You skip the selection step ("Which editor would you like to use?") and directly enter the new lesson editor.

  2. Saving classic lessons from the library: When you save a classic lesson from a colleague or the LessonUp library, it is automatically converted before being saved to your account.

  3. Copying classic lessons: When you copy one of your own classic lessons, the new duplicate is automatically converted to the new lesson editor.

šŸ’” Quick enable: To help you discover this setting, you can select "Always convert" or "Always use this option" directly when copying, saving, or creating a lesson. This will automatically toggle the account setting on for you.

Setting 2: Automatically convert classic lessons upon opening

When you enable this setting, any classic lesson you open is automatically converted to the new lesson editor.

  • Get straight to work: You no longer need to click 'Upgrade' manually; the lesson opens directly in the new editor environment.

Exceptions

In a few specific scenarios, classic lessons will not convert automatically right away when opened, saved, or copied:

  • Channel lessons:
    ā€‹    If a lesson was originally part of a channel, opening it will not convert it automatically. Instead, you will be prompted to choose which editor to open it in. This ensures channel content can be retained in its original state.

  • Lessons in a shared folder:
    ā€‹    Converting a lesson inside a shared folder affects everyone who has access to that folder. Therefore, the lesson is not converted silently upon opening. Instead, you will receive a prompt/warning informing you that converting this lesson will apply the change for all members of the shared folder.

  • Copying multiple lessons simultaneously:
    ā€‹    When you select and copy multiple classic lessons at once, they will currently remain in the classic editor format. (We are working on supporting bulk conversion in the future).

Important distinction: What happens to your original lesson?

There is an important distinction regarding how the original file is handled between the two settings:

  • When converting upon 'Copying' or 'Saving' (Setting 1):
    ā€‹    Your original classic lesson remains intact in its original folder location, and a new converted copy is created in the new lesson editor.

  • When converting upon 'Opening' (Setting 2):
    ā€‹    To reduce clutter in your folder overview (the 'explorer'), the original classic lesson is automatically moved to the Trash. It will no longer appear in its original folder location. If you ever need the classic version back, you can easily recover it from the trash.

Managing these settings

You can enable or disable these preferences at any time:

  1. Click on the profile icon / rocket in the top-right corner to access your account.

  2. In the left-hand menu, open Account settings.

  3. Scroll down to the ā€œSkip confirmationsā€ section.

  4. Toggle the desired options on or off:

    • ā€œDefault to the new lesson editor when creating, copying, and saving classic lessons.ā€

    • ā€œAutomatically convert classic lessons to the new editor when opening.ā€
