Adding a category question to your lesson

With the category question, students can organise their answers into different categories. This is an effective way to gather ideas, compare viewpoints, or structure complex information. Answers appear immediately and clearly under the correct category on the teacher’s screen.

This question type is an expanded version of the word cloud and offers more visual flexibility.

How to add an answer by category question

  • Click + add slide and select category question.

  • Edit the default categories and the question to suit your lesson.

  • Add more categories if you wish; there is no maximum.

Layout options:

  • Automatic: LessonUp arranges the categories automatically.

  • Custom: You decide the size and position of the categories.


How it works for students

Students see the categories on their device.

They select a category and type their answer.

Multiple answers per category are allowed.

Answers appear in real-time under the correct category on the teacher’s screen.


Teacher options

Answers can be moved at any time, even during the lesson.

Click on an answer to see which student submitted it.
