Adding a poll to your lesson

A poll is a quick way to gather opinions, check understanding, or spark a class discussion. Pupils vote anonymously on a question with 2 to 6 answer options.

They see the poll on their own device and select the answer that suits them best. The results are shown live and anonymously to the teacher.

Features

  • Type: Multiple choice, anonymous

  • Purpose: Opinion, engagement, class discussion

  • Design: Ready to use

  • Teaching techniques: Student voice, formative assessment

Follow these steps to add a poll

Poll - text

  1. In your lesson, click + Add slide

  2. Then select Poll

A new poll slide will appear with an empty question and two answer options. You can edit both the question and the answers to suit your lesson. For example:

Question:
“Which theme best fits the story we just read?”
Answers:
“Friendship”, “Courage”, “Loneliness”, “Growth”

You can add up to 6 answer options. Click ‘Add answer’ to include more. Want to keep it simple? Two options are also fine.

Poll - emoij

To add a Poll - emoji to your lesson, click + Add slide and then select Poll - emoji.

The slide includes five default emojis, representing a scale from very unhappy to very happy:

Next, edit the prompt above the emojis to suit your purpose. For example:

  • “How do you feel about today’s topic?”

  • “How confident do you feel about the upcoming test?”

  • “What mood are you in as we start this lesson?”

That’s it! The poll is now ready to use.

Extra tips

  • Polls are anonymous, making them ideal for collecting honest opinions.

  • Use them to introduce a new topic, wrap up a discussion, or quickly check understanding.

  • The results can spark further discussion or help clarify confusion.

  • Polls encourage participation from all students, including those who are usually more reserved.
