Adding a poll to your lesson in the new lesson editor

Updated this week

Adding a poll to your lesson

The poll question type is a powerful way to instantly gather student opinions, check understanding, or spark a class discussion. This type of poll displays a question with two to six text-based answer options, which students can vote on anonymously.

Whether you want students to vote on a topic, share their perspective, or see which option resonates most — this simple yet effective activity gives every student a voice.

During the lesson, students view the poll on their own device and choose the answer that fits best. The results are collected anonymously and displayed in real time on the teacher’s screen as a bar chart.

Features

  • Type: Multiple choice, anonymous

  • Purpose: Opinion, engagement, class discussion

  • Design: Ready to use

  • Teaching techniques: Student voice, formative assessment

Or follow these steps:

  1. In your lesson, click + Add slide

  2. Then select Poll

A new poll slide will appear with an empty question and two answer options. You can edit both the question and the answers to suit your lesson. For example:

Question:
“Which theme best fits the story we just read?”
Answers:
“Friendship”, “Courage”, “Loneliness”, “Growth”

You can add up to 6 answer options. Click ‘Add answer’ to include more. Want to keep it simple? Two options are also fine.

Extra tips

  • Polls are anonymous, making them ideal for collecting honest opinions.

  • Use them to introduce a new topic, wrap up a discussion, or quickly check understanding.

  • The results can spark further discussion or help clarify confusion.

  • Polls encourage participation from all students, including those who are usually more reserved.
