Create glossary with AI in LessonUp

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Automatically generate a subject-specific glossary that supports your lesson content.

What does this AI tool do?

The Create Glossary AI tool enables you to generate a list of key vocabulary terms linked to a LessonUp lesson or topic of your choice. Whether you're introducing new terminology, preparing for a test, or supporting language learners, this tool gives you a clear and structured glossary in seconds.

You can customise:

  • the source (existing LessonUp lesson or custom topic),

  • the number of words,

  • the format (list or table),

  • the language,

  • and add your own words if needed.

How does it work?

1. Choose a source: LessonUp lesson or manual topic

You can start from:

  • An existing LessonUp lesson – paste the link to your lesson and the AI will extract the most relevant terms.

  • A subject – select “subject” and describe the subject (e.g. Photosynthesis, The Cold War, The Human Body).

2. Add the lesson link (if using an existing lesson)

Simply copy and paste the link from your browser's address bar.

🔗 Example: https://www.lessonup.com/app/lesson/xxxxxxx/

3. Select the number of words

Choose how many words you’d like the glossary to include:

  • 10, 25, 50, or 100

The more you select, the broader the coverage.

4. (Optional) Manually add words

You can enter specific terms that you’d like to include.

5. Choose a format

Select how you want your glossary to appear:

  • List – a simple, clean word list

  • Table – includes room for definitions, translations or notes

📝 Use the table format for handouts, revision cards, or bilingual glossaries.

6. (Optional) Select the educational level

Choose your students' level so the glossary is matched to their reading and comprehension ability. Suitable for:

  • Primary

  • Secondary

  • Vocational or Higher Education

  • ISK, EAL or SEN groups

7. (Optional) Translate the glossary

Select a target language such as:

  • English (UK)

  • Dutch

  • French

  • German

  • Spanish

  • and others

The glossary will be automatically translated, useful for language learners or bilingual teaching.

8. Click “Create glossary”

The AI will analyse your input and generate a subject-specific glossary instantly. You can copy it, edit it, or add it to your lesson materials.

Example

You choose:

  • Topic: The Water Cycle

  • Number of words: 25

  • Format: Table

  • Translate to: English (UK)

The AI generates a glossary including:

  • Evaporation

  • Condensation

  • Precipitation

  • Water vapour

  • Groundwater
...with space to define or translate each one.
