Summarise a website with AI in LessonUp

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Get a clear summary of any web page – ready to use in your lesson.

What does this AI tool do?

The Summarise Website AI tool allows you to generate a structured summary of any publicly available web page. Whether it’s a news article, a museum website, or a scientific explanation – the tool picks out the key ideas and presents them in a digestible format.

It’s ideal for:

  • turning online content into classroom-ready materials,

  • helping pupils understand complex sources,

  • and saving time during lesson preparation.

How does it work?

1. Paste the website URL

Copy the full link of the page you want to summarise (from your browser’s address bar) and paste it into the input field.

🔗 Example: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/xxxxxxxx

💡 Tip: Make sure the website is publicly accessible. The tool cannot summarise pages behind a login or paywall.

2. Choose a summary format

Decide how you want the summary to be structured:

  • 1 paragraph – for a brief overview

  • 500 words – for a more detailed summary

  • 5 bullet points – to present the key takeaways clearly

You can also write a custom instruction such as “3 short bullet points” or “overview plus conclusion”.

3. (Optional) Select an educational level

Choose the level your pupils are working at, from:

  • Primary (KS1–KS2)

  • Secondary (KS3–KS5)

  • Vocational or Higher Education

  • Special or language support (e.g. SEN, EAL, ISK)

The AI will adjust the tone and complexity accordingly.

4. Click “Summarise Website”

The AI reads the content of the website, filters out unnecessary elements (ads, navigation, etc.), and provides a summary in your preferred format and level.

You can copy the result directly into your lesson, worksheet or discussion activity.

Example

Summary format: 5 bullets.
