Summarise text with AI in LessonUp

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Quickly and clearly summarise any piece of text – tailored to your class.

What does this AI tool do?

The Summarise Text AI tool helps you quickly turn long or complex texts into clear and concise summaries. Ideal when you:

  • want to simplify an article for pupils,

  • need a shorter version of an explanation,

  • or want to highlight the key ideas in a text.

You can even customise the summary to match the educational level of your learners.

How does it work?

1. Paste your text

Go to the AI-tool 'Summarise Text' in LessonUp.

Paste the content you’d like to summarise into the text box. This could be a news article, an informative passage, or something you've written yourself.

💡 Tip: For best results, make sure the text is in one language only – either English or Dutch.

2. Choose a summary format

You can decide how the summary should be presented:

  • 1 paragraph – short and concise

  • 500 words – for a more detailed version

  • 5 bullet points – a structured list of key takeaways

You can also type a custom instruction such as: “3 short bullet points” or “2 sentences and a question”.

3. (Optional) Select the education level

Choose the level of your class, such as:

  • Primary (ages 5–11)

  • Secondary (e.g. GCSE, A-level)

  • Vocational, Further Education or University level

  • Special Education or Language support (e.g. EAL, ISK)

The AI will then adapt the summary to the language and cognitive level of your learners.

4. Click “Summarise Text”

The AI will instantly generate a summary that you can use, edit, or paste into your lesson.

Example

Let’s say you have a news article about climate change. You paste it in, select Secondary education and choose 5 bullet points. The AI gives you a structured, easy-to-understand summary with the most important facts – perfect for classroom use or revision.

When to use this AI tool
