The spinner in the new lesson editor

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What is the spinner?

The spinner allows you to randomly select a student to take a turn. As soon as students join your lesson using the lesson code, their names are automatically added to the spinner. This makes it easy to choose a student to answer a question or complete a task in a playful and fair way.

If no students have joined your lesson via the code, their names will not appear in the spinner. Instead, the spinner will show ‘Yes’ and ‘No’.

⚠️ At the moment, it’s not yet possible to add custom terms or concepts to the spinner.

How do you add the spinner to your slide?

Open a lesson in the new lesson editor.

Click on ‘Spinner’ above your slide – it will be added to your slide instantly.

How does the spinner work?

Once the spinner has been added to your slide, you don’t need to do anything else. Currently, the spinner can only display student names. If no students are participating via the lesson code, it will show ‘Yes’ / ‘No’.

  1. Click ‘Teach’ when your slide or lesson is ready

  2. Click the spinner to open it

  3. Click ‘Spin’ at the bottom of the slide

  4. You can choose to spin again with all names included (‘Spin’), or spin again excluding the previously selected name (‘Spin without...’).

  5. To close the spinner, click ‘Back to slide’ or press ESC on your keyboard. Clicking outside the spinner to close it is not yet supported.

Adding the spinner during teaching

You can add the spinner while creating your lesson, but it’s now also possible to add it while teaching. Here’s how:

  • While teaching, click the puzzle icon (called ‘Components’) at the bottom of your screen

  • Click the spinner – it will be added to your slide immediately

  • Student names will appear in the spinner as soon as they join your lesson interactively via the code
