How to use the teacher view in LessonUp
Updated over a week ago

The teacher view is a new feature in LessonUp’s new lesson editor that makes your teaching experience smoother and more organised. With this feature, you can:

  • Control the lesson on a separate screen

  • View slide notes on a separate screen (without students being able to see them)

  • Preview the next slide while teaching

Follow the steps below to access and make the most of this feature.

Opening the teacher view

  1. Open a lesson in the new lesson editor.

  2. In the lesson editor, find the ‘Teach lesson’ button in the top-right corner.

  3. Next to this button, you’ll see an arrow.
Click the arrow and select ‘Teacher view.

  4. The lesson editor will switch to teaching mode and open a separate window with the teacher view.

  5. You can move the regular lesson display to the screen in your classroom and keep the teacher view on your own laptop. If you run into any issues, see the section below on setting up your screens.

In the teacher view, you can navigate through your slides, view the notes attached to each slide, and see what the next slide will be.

Adding notes

  1. Open your lesson in the new lesson editor.

  2. In the right-hand sidebar, find the Notes section.

  3. In this section, you can add notes for the slide that is currently open.

While teaching with the teacher view, your notes will appear next to the slide in a separate window.

Setting up a second screen

For Mac users:

Step 1: Connect a second screen
Make sure you have a cable to connect a second screen to your computer.

Step 2: Set up the extended display

  • Open System Settings:
Go to the Apple menu () > System Settings (or System Preferences) > Displays.

  • Enable extended display:
Ensure that ‘Mirror Displays’ is turned off if you want an extended workspace.

  • Arrange your displays:
In the Displays section, your screens will appear as rectangles.
Drag these rectangles to arrange the screens in the desired order, for example, placing the second screen to the right, left, above, or below your main screen.
Adjust display settings such as resolution and scaling as needed.

Step 3: Move windows between screens
You can now move your mouse or drag windows between the screens.

When using teacher view, we recommend keeping the teacher view on your laptop and the single-slide display on the classroom screen.
